the elders1 and prominent men2 are the head, the prophets3 who teach lies4 are the tail.
Those who guide5 this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray.617
Therefore the Lord will take no pleasure in the young men,7 nor will he pity8 the fatherless and widows, for everyone is ungodly9 and wicked,10 every mouth speaks vileness.11 Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.1218
Surely wickedness burns like a fire;13 it consumes briers and thorns,14 it sets the forest thickets ablaze,15 so that it rolls upward in a column of smoke.
By the wrath16 of the LORD Almighty the land will be scorched17 and the people will be fuel for the fire;18 no one will spare his brother.1920
On the right they will devour, but still be hungry;20 on the left they will eat,21 but not be satisfied. Each will feed on the flesh of his own offspringa:
Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, and Ephraim on Manasseh;22 together they will turn against Judah.23 Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.24
