Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;1 and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.216
Don't be deceived,3 my dear brothers.417
Every good and perfect gift is from above,5 coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,6 who does not change7 like shifting shadows.
He chose to give us birth8 through the word of truth,9 that we might be a kind of firstfruits10 of all he created.
My dear brothers,11 take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak12 and slow to become angry,
for man's anger13 does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
Therefore, get rid of14 all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you,15 which can save you.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.1623
Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom,17 and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.18
