"Tell them this: 'These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish1 from the earth and from under the heavens.' "a12
But God made2 the earth3 by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom4 and stretched out the heavens5 by his understanding.
When he thunders,6 the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning7 with the rain8 and brings out the wind from his storehouses.914
Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed10 by his idols. His images are a fraud;11 they have no breath in them.
They are worthless,12 the objects of mockery; when their judgment comes, they will perish.
He who is the Portion13 of Jacob is not like these, for he is the Maker of all things,14 including Israel, the tribe of his inheritance15-- the LORD Almighty is his name.16
Gather up your belongings17 to leave the land, you who live under siege.
For this is what the LORD says: "At this time I will hurl18 out those who live in this land; I will bring distress19 on them so that they may be captured."
Woe to me because of my injury! My wound20 is incurable! Yet I said to myself, "This is my sickness, and I must endure21 it."
My tent22 is destroyed; all its ropes are snapped. My sons are gone from me and are no more;23 no one is left now to pitch my tent or to set up my shelter.
The shepherds24 are senseless25 and do not inquire of the LORD;26 so they do not prosper27 and all their flock is scattered.28
