But God made1 the earth2 by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom3 and stretched out the heavens4 by his understanding.
When he thunders,5 the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning6 with the rain7 and brings out the wind from his storehouses.814
Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed9 by his idols. His images are a fraud;10 they have no breath in them.
They are worthless,11 the objects of mockery; when their judgment comes, they will perish.
He who is the Portion12 of Jacob is not like these, for he is the Maker of all things,13 including Israel, the tribe of his inheritance14-- the LORD Almighty is his name.15
Gather up your belongings16 to leave the land, you who live under siege.
For this is what the LORD says: "At this time I will hurl17 out those who live in this land; I will bring distress18 on them so that they may be captured."
Woe to me because of my injury! My wound19 is incurable! Yet I said to myself, "This is my sickness, and I must endure20 it."
My tent21 is destroyed; all its ropes are snapped. My sons are gone from me and are no more;22 no one is left now to pitch my tent or to set up my shelter.
The shepherds23 are senseless24 and do not inquire of the LORD;25 so they do not prosper26 and all their flock is scattered.2722
Listen! The report is coming-- a great commotion from the land of the north!28 It will make the towns of Judah desolate,29 a haunt of jackals.30
