Jeremiah 10:8-18 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
8 They are all senseless1 and foolish;2 they are taught by worthless wooden idols.3 9 Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish4 and gold from Uphaz. What the craftsman and goldsmith have made5 is then dressed in blue and purple-- all made by skilled workers. 10 But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God,6 the eternal King.7 When he is angry,8 the earth trembles;9 the nations cannot endure his wrath.10 11 "Tell them this: 'These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish11 from the earth and from under the heavens.' "a 12 But God made12 the earth13 by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom14 and stretched out the heavens15 by his understanding. 13 When he thunders,16 the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning17 with the rain18 and brings out the wind from his storehouses.19 14 Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed20 by his idols. His images are a fraud;21 they have no breath in them. 15 They are worthless,22 the objects of mockery; when their judgment comes, they will perish. 16 He who is the Portion23 of Jacob is not like these, for he is the Maker of all things,24 including Israel, the tribe of his inheritance25-- the LORD Almighty is his name.26

Coming Destruction

17 Gather up your belongings27 to leave the land, you who live under siege. 18 For this is what the LORD says: "At this time I will hurl28 out those who live in this land; I will bring distress29 on them so that they may be captured."
