How awful that day1 will be! None will be like it. It will be a time of trouble2 for Jacob, but he will be saved3 out of it.
" 'In that day,' declares the LORD Almighty, 'I will break the yoke4 off their necks and will tear off their bonds;5 no longer will foreigners enslave them.69
Instead, they will serve the LORD their God and David7 their king,8 whom I will raise up for them.
" 'So do not fear,9 O Jacob my servant;10 do not be dismayed, O Israel,' declares the LORD. 'I will surely save11 you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and security,12 and no one will make him afraid.1311
I am with you14 and will save you,' declares the LORD. 'Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy15 you. I will discipline16 you but only with justice; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.'1712
"This is what the LORD says: " 'Your wound18 is incurable, your injury beyond healing.1913
There is no one to plead your cause,20 no remedy for your sore, no healing21 for you.
All your allies22 have forgotten you; they care nothing for you. I have struck you as an enemy23 would and punished you as would the cruel,24 because your guilt is so great and your sins25 so many.
Why do you cry out over your wound, your pain that has no cure?26 Because of your great guilt and many sins I have done these things to you.2716
" 'But all who devour28 you will be devoured; all your enemies will go into exile.29 Those who plunder30 you will be plundered; all who make spoil of you I will despoil.
But I will restore you to health and heal31 your wounds,' declares the LORD, 'because you are called an outcast,32 Zion for whom no one cares.'33
