Jeremiah 31:18-28 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
18 "I have surely heard Ephraim's moaning: 'You disciplined1 me like an unruly calf,2 and I have been disciplined. Restore3 me, and I will return, because you are the LORD my God. 19 After I strayed,4 I repented; after I came to understand, I beat5 my breast. I was ashamed6 and humiliated because I bore the disgrace of my youth.'7 20 Is not Ephraim my dear son, the child8 in whom I delight? Though I often speak against him, I still remember9 him. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I have great compassion10 for him," declares the LORD. 21 "Set up road signs; put up guideposts.11 Take note of the highway,12 the road that you take. Return,13 O Virgin14 Israel, return to your towns. 22 How long will you wander,15 O unfaithful16 daughter? The LORD will create a new thing17 on earth-- a woman will surrounda18 a man." 23 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "When I bring them back from captivity,b19 the people in the land of Judah and in its towns will once again use these words: 'The LORD bless20 you, O righteous dwelling,21 O sacred mountain.'22 24 People will live23 together in Judah and all its towns--farmers and those who move about with their flocks.24 25 I will refresh the weary25 and satisfy the faint."26 26 At this I awoke27 and looked around. My sleep had been pleasant to me. 27 "The days are coming,"28 declares the LORD, "when I will plant29 the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the offspring of men and of animals. 28 Just as I watched30 over them to uproot31 and tear down, and to overthrow, destroy and bring disaster,32 so I will watch over them to build and to plant,"33 declares the LORD.
