This is what the LORD says: "The people who survive the sword will find favor1 in the desert; I will come to give rest2 to Israel."
The LORD appeared to us in the past,a saying: "I have loved3 you with an everlasting love; I have drawn4 you with loving-kindness.
I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt,5 O Virgin6 Israel. Again you will take up your tambourines7 and go out to dance8 with the joyful.95
Again you will plant10 vineyards on the hills of Samaria;11 the farmers will plant them and enjoy their fruit.126
There will be a day when watchmen13 cry out on the hills of Ephraim, 'Come, let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.' "147
This is what the LORD says: "Sing15 with joy for Jacob; shout for the foremost16 of the nations. Make your praises heard, and say, 'O LORD, save17 your people, the remnant18 of Israel.'
See, I will bring them from the land of the north19 and gather20 them from the ends of the earth. Among them will be the blind21 and the lame,22 expectant mothers and women in labor; a great throng will return.
They will come with weeping;23 they will pray as I bring them back. I will lead24 them beside streams of water25 on a level26 path where they will not stumble, because I am Israel's father,27 and Ephraim is my firstborn son.
"Hear the word of the LORD, O nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands:28 'He who scattered29 Israel will gather30 them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.'3111
For the LORD will ransom Jacob and redeem32 them from the hand of those stronger33 than they.
They will come and shout for joy34 on the heights35 of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty36 of the LORD-- the grain, the new wine and the oil,37 the young of the flocks38 and herds. They will be like a well-watered garden,39 and they will sorrow40 no more.
