Just as I watched1 over them to uproot2 and tear down, and to overthrow, destroy and bring disaster,3 so I will watch over them to build and to plant,"4 declares the LORD.
"In those days people will no longer say, 'The fathers5 have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.'630
Instead, everyone will die for his own sin;7 whoever eats sour grapes--his own teeth will be set on edge.
"The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant8 with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant9 I made with their forefathers10 when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt,11 because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband12 toa them,b " declares the LORD.
"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds13 and write it on their hearts.14 I will be their God, and they will be my people.1534
No longer will a man teach16 his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' because they will all know17 me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive18 their wickedness and will remember their sins19 no more."
This is what the LORD says, he who appoints20 the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night,21 who stirs up the sea22 so that its waves roar23-- the LORD Almighty is his name:2436
"Only if these decrees25 vanish from my sight," declares the LORD, "will the descendants26 of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me."
This is what the LORD says: "Only if the heavens above can be measured27 and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject28 all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done," declares the LORD.
"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when this city will be rebuilt29 for me from the Tower of Hananel30 to the Corner Gate.31
