See, I will bring them from the land of the north1 and gather2 them from the ends of the earth. Among them will be the blind3 and the lame,4 expectant mothers and women in labor; a great throng will return.
They will come with weeping;5 they will pray as I bring them back. I will lead6 them beside streams of water7 on a level8 path where they will not stumble, because I am Israel's father,9 and Ephraim is my firstborn son.
"Hear the word of the LORD, O nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands:10 'He who scattered11 Israel will gather12 them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.'1311
For the LORD will ransom Jacob and redeem14 them from the hand of those stronger15 than they.
They will come and shout for joy16 on the heights17 of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty18 of the LORD-- the grain, the new wine and the oil,19 the young of the flocks20 and herds. They will be like a well-watered garden,21 and they will sorrow22 no more.
Then maidens will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning23 into gladness; I will give them comfort24 and joy25 instead of sorrow.
I will satisfy26 the priests27 with abundance, and my people will be filled with my bounty,28" declares the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: "A voice is heard in Ramah,29 mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted,30 because her children are no more."3116
This is what the LORD says: "Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears,32 for your work will be rewarded,33" declares the LORD. "They will return34 from the land of the enemy.
So there is hope35 for your future," declares the LORD. "Your children36 will return to their own land.
"I have surely heard Ephraim's moaning: 'You disciplined37 me like an unruly calf,38 and I have been disciplined. Restore39 me, and I will return, because you are the LORD my God.
