'This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Take these documents, both the sealed1 and unsealed copies of the deed of purchase, and put them in a clay jar so they will last a long time.
For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land.'216
"After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch3 son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
"Ah, Sovereign LORD,4 you have made the heavens and the earth5 by your great power and outstretched arm.6 Nothing is too hard7 for you.
You show love8 to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps9 of their children10 after them. O great and powerful God,11 whose name is the LORD Almighty,1219
great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.13 Your eyes are open to all the ways of men;14 you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve.1520
You performed miraculous signs and wonders16 in Egypt17 and have continued them to this day, both in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown18 that is still yours.
You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand19 and an outstretched arm20 and with great terror.2122
You gave them this land you had sworn to give their forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.2223
They came in and took possession23 of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law;24 they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster25 upon them.
"See how the siege ramps26 are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague,27 the city will be handed over to the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said28 has happened,29 as you now see.
