For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land.'116
"After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch2 son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
"Ah, Sovereign LORD,3 you have made the heavens and the earth4 by your great power and outstretched arm.5 Nothing is too hard6 for you.
You show love7 to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps8 of their children9 after them. O great and powerful God,10 whose name is the LORD Almighty,1119
great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.12 Your eyes are open to all the ways of men;13 you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve.1420
You performed miraculous signs and wonders15 in Egypt16 and have continued them to this day, both in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown17 that is still yours.
You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand18 and an outstretched arm19 and with great terror.2022
You gave them this land you had sworn to give their forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.2123
They came in and took possession22 of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law;23 they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster24 upon them.
"See how the siege ramps25 are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague,26 the city will be handed over to the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said27 has happened,28 as you now see.
And though the city will be handed over to the Babylonians, you, O Sovereign LORD, say to me, 'Buy the field29 with silver and have the transaction witnessed.30' "
