"Ah, Sovereign LORD,1 you have made the heavens and the earth2 by your great power and outstretched arm.3 Nothing is too hard4 for you.
You show love5 to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps6 of their children7 after them. O great and powerful God,8 whose name is the LORD Almighty,919
great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.10 Your eyes are open to all the ways of men;11 you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve.1220
You performed miraculous signs and wonders13 in Egypt14 and have continued them to this day, both in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown15 that is still yours.
You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand16 and an outstretched arm17 and with great terror.1822
You gave them this land you had sworn to give their forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.1923
They came in and took possession20 of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law;21 they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster22 upon them.
"See how the siege ramps23 are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague,24 the city will be handed over to the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said25 has happened,26 as you now see.
And though the city will be handed over to the Babylonians, you, O Sovereign LORD, say to me, 'Buy the field27 with silver and have the transaction witnessed.28' "
