so I bought the field1 at Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel and weighed out for him seventeen shekelsa of silver.210
I signed and sealed the deed,3 had it witnessed,4 and weighed out the silver on the scales.
I took the deed of purchase--the sealed copy containing the terms and conditions, as well as the unsealed copy--
and I gave this deed to Baruch5 son of Neriah,6 the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of my cousin Hanamel and of the witnesses who had signed the deed and of all the Jews sitting in the courtyard of the guard.
"In their presence I gave Baruch these instructions:
'This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Take these documents, both the sealed7 and unsealed copies of the deed of purchase, and put them in a clay jar so they will last a long time.
For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land.'816
"After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch9 son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
"Ah, Sovereign LORD,10 you have made the heavens and the earth11 by your great power and outstretched arm.12 Nothing is too hard13 for you.
You show love14 to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps15 of their children16 after them. O great and powerful God,17 whose name is the LORD Almighty,1819
great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.19 Your eyes are open to all the ways of men;20 you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve.21
