"This is what the LORD says: 'You say about this place, "It is a desolate waste, without men or animals."1 Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted,2 inhabited by neither men nor animals, there will be heard once more
the sounds of joy and gladness,3 the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings4 to the house of the LORD, saying, "Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good;5 his love endures forever."6 For I will restore the fortunes7 of the land as they were before,8' says the LORD.
"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'In this place, desolate9 and without men or animals10--in all its towns there will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.1113
In the towns of the hill12 country, of the western foothills and of the Negev,13 in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem and in the towns of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hand14 of the one who counts them,' says the LORD.
" 'The days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will fulfill the gracious promise15 I made to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
" 'In those days and at that time I will make a righteous16 Branch17 sprout from David's line;18 he will do what is just and right in the land.
In those days Judah will be saved19 and Jerusalem will live in safety.20 This is the name by which ita will be called:21 The LORD Our Righteousness.'2217
For this is what the LORD says: 'David will never fail23 to have a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,
nor will the priests,24 who are Levites,25 ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.26' "
The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
"This is what the LORD says: 'If you can break my covenant with the day27 and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time,28
