Jeremiah 44:2-12 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
2 "This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You saw the great disaster1 I brought on Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah.2 Today they lie deserted and in ruins3 3 because of the evil4 they have done. They provoked me to anger5 by burning incense6 and by worshiping other gods7 that neither they nor you nor your fathers8 ever knew. 4 Again and again9 I sent my servants the prophets,10 who said, 'Do not do this detestable11 thing that I hate!' 5 But they did not listen or pay attention;1213 they did not turn from their wickedness14 or stop burning incense15 to other gods.16 6 Therefore, my fierce anger was poured out;17 it raged against the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem and made them the desolate ruins18 they are today. 7 "Now this is what the LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Why bring such great disaster19 on yourselves by cutting off from Judah the men and women,20 the children and infants, and so leave yourselves without a remnant?21 8 Why provoke me to anger with what your hands have made,22 burning incense23 to other gods in Egypt,24 where you have come to live?25 You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves an object of cursing and reproach26 among all the nations on earth. 9 Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your fathers27 and by the kings28 and queens29 of Judah and the wickedness committed by you and your wives30 in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem?31 10 To this day they have not humbled32 themselves or shown reverence,33 nor have they followed my law34 and the decrees35 I set before you and your fathers.36 11 "Therefore, this is what the LORD Almighty,37 the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster38 on you and to destroy all Judah. 12 I will take away the remnant39 of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest,40 they will die by sword or famine.41 They will become an object of cursing and horror, of condemnation and reproach.42
