Why has the city of renown not been abandoned, the town in which I delight?
Surely, her young men1 will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced2 in that day," declares the LORD Almighty.

Concerning Kedar7 and the kingdoms of Hazor,8 which Nebuchadnezzar9 king of Babylon attacked: This is what the LORD says: "Arise, and attack Kedar and destroy the people of the East.1029
Their tents and their flocks11 will be taken; their shelters will be carried off with all their goods and camels. Men will shout to them, 'Terror12 on every side!'
"Flee quickly away! Stay in deep caves,13 you who live in Hazor,14" declares the LORD. "Nebuchadnezzar15 king of Babylon has plotted against you; he has devised a plan against you.
"Arise and attack a nation at ease, which lives in confidence," declares the LORD, "a nation that has neither gates nor bars;16 its people live alone.
Their camels17 will become plunder, and their large herds18 will be booty. I will scatter to the winds19 those who are in distant placesa20 and will bring disaster on them from every side," declares the LORD.
"Hazor21 will become a haunt of jackals,22 a desolate23 place forever. No one will live there; no man will dwell24 in it."
This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam,25 early in the reign of Zedekiah26 king of Judah:
