A voice is announcing from Dan,1 proclaiming disaster from the hills of Ephraim.216
"Tell this to the nations, proclaim it to Jerusalem: 'A besieging army is coming from a distant land,3 raising a war cry4 against the cities of Judah.517
They surround6 her like men guarding a field, because she has rebelled7 against me,' " declares the LORD.
"Your own conduct and actions8 have brought this upon you.9 This is your punishment. How bitter10 it is! How it pierces to the heart!"
Oh, my anguish, my anguish!11 I writhe in pain.12 Oh, the agony of my heart! My heart pounds13 within me, I cannot keep silent.14 For I have heard the sound of the trumpet;15 I have heard the battle cry.1620
Disaster follows disaster;17 the whole land lies in ruins.18 In an instant my tents19 are destroyed, my shelter in a moment.
How long must I see the battle standard20 and hear the sound of the trumpet?2122
"My people are fools;22 they do not know me.23 They are senseless children; they have no understanding.24 They are skilled in doing evil;25 they know not how to do good."2623
I looked at the earth, and it was formless and empty;27 and at the heavens, and their light28 was gone.
I looked at the mountains, and they were quaking;29 all the hills were swaying.
I looked, and there were no people; every bird in the sky had flown away.30
