11 "Because you rejoice and are glad, you who pillage my inheritance,1 because you frolic like a heifer2 threshing grain and neigh like stallions, 12 your mother will be greatly ashamed; she who gave you birth will be disgraced.3 She will be the least of the nations-- a wilderness, a dry land, a desert.4 13 Because of the LORD's anger she will not be inhabited but will be completely desolate.5 All who pass Babylon will be horrified6 and scoff7 because of all her wounds.8 14 "Take up your positions around Babylon, all you who draw the bow.9 Shoot at her! Spare no arrows,10 for she has sinned against the LORD. 15 Shout11 against her on every side! She surrenders, her towers fall, her walls12 are torn down. Since this is the vengeance13 of the LORD, take vengeance on her; do to her14 as she has done to others.15 16 Cut off from Babylon the sower, and the reaper with his sickle at harvest. Because of the sword16 of the oppressor let everyone return to his own people,17 let everyone flee to his own land.18 17 "Israel is a scattered flock19 that lions20 have chased away. The first to devour21 him was the king22 of Assyria; the last to crush his bones23 was Nebuchadnezzar24 king25 of Babylon." 18 Therefore this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "I will punish the king of Babylon and his land as I punished the king26 of Assyria.27 19 But I will bring28 Israel back to his own pasture and he will graze on Carmel and Bashan; his appetite will be satisfied29 on the hills30 of Ephraim and Gilead.31 20 In those days, at that time," declares the LORD, "search will be made for Israel's guilt, but there will be none,32 and for the sins33 of Judah, but none will be found, for I will forgive34 the remnant35 I spare. 21 "Attack the land of Merathaim and those who live in Pekod.36 Pursue, kill and completely destroya them," declares the LORD. "Do everything I have commanded you.
