View In My Bible
23 How broken and shattered is the hammer1 of the whole earth!2 How desolate3 is Babylon among the nations! 24 I set a trap4 for you, O Babylon, and you were caught before you knew it; you were found and captured5 because you opposed6 the LORD. 25 The LORD has opened his arsenal and brought out the weapons7 of his wrath, for the Sovereign LORD Almighty has work to do in the land of the Babylonians.8 26 Come against her from afar.9 Break open her granaries; pile her up like heaps of grain.10 Completely destroy11 her and leave her no remnant. 27 Kill all her young bulls;12 let them go down to the slaughter!13 Woe to them! For their day14 has come, the time15 for them to be punished. 28 Listen to the fugitives16 and refugees from Babylon declaring in Zion17 how the LORD our God has taken vengeance,18 vengeance for his temple.19 29 "Summon archers against Babylon, all those who draw the bow.20 Encamp all around her; let no one escape.21 Repay22 her for her deeds;23 do to her as she has done. For she has defied24 the LORD, the Holy One25 of Israel. 30 Therefore, her young men26 will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced in that day," declares the LORD. 31 "See, I am against27 you, O arrogant one," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty, "for your day28 has come, the time for you to be punished. 32 The arrogant29 one will stumble and fall30 and no one will help her up;31 I will kindle a fire32 in her towns that will consume all who are around her." 33 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "The people of Israel are oppressed,33 and the people of Judah as well. All their captors hold them fast, refusing to let them go.34
