Jeremiah 51:2-12 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
2 I will send foreigners1 to Babylon to winnow2 her and to devastate her land; they will oppose her on every side in the day3 of her disaster. 3 Let not the archer string his bow,4 nor let him put on his armor.5 Do not spare her young men; completely destroya her army. 4 They will fall6 down slain in Babylon,b fatally wounded in her streets.7 5 For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken8 by their God, the LORD Almighty, though their landc is full of guilt9 before the Holy One of Israel. 6 "Flee10 from Babylon! Run for your lives! Do not be destroyed because of her sins.11 It is time12 for the LORD's vengeance;13 he will pay14 her what she deserves. 7 Babylon was a gold cup15 in the LORD's hand; she made the whole earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; therefore they have now gone mad. 8 Babylon will suddenly fall16 and be broken. Wail over her! Get balm17 for her pain; perhaps she can be healed. 9 " 'We would have healed Babylon, but she cannot be healed; let us leave18 her and each go to his own land, for her judgment19 reaches to the skies, it rises as high as the clouds.' 10 " 'The LORD has vindicated20 us; come, let us tell in Zion what the LORD our God has done.'21 11 "Sharpen the arrows,22 take up the shields!23 The LORD has stirred up the kings24 of the Medes,25 because his purpose26 is to destroy Babylon. The LORD will take vengeance,27 vengeance for his temple.28 12 Lift up a banner29 against the walls of Babylon! Reinforce the guard, station the watchmen,30 prepare an ambush!31 The LORD will carry out his purpose,32 his decree against the people of Babylon.
