The sea will rise over Babylon; its roaring waves1 will cover her.
Her towns will be desolate, a dry and desert2 land, a land where no one lives, through which no man travels.344
I will punish Bel4 in Babylon and make him spew out5 what he has swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him. And the wall6 of Babylon will fall.
"Come out7 of her, my people! Run8 for your lives! Run from the fierce anger9 of the LORD.
Do not lose heart10 or be afraid11 when rumors12 are heard in the land; one rumor comes this year, another the next, rumors of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler.
For the time will surely come when I will punish the idols13 of Babylon; her whole land will be disgraced14 and her slain will all lie fallen within her.1548
Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will shout16 for joy over Babylon, for out of the north17 destroyers18 will attack her," declares the LORD.

You who have escaped the sword, leave20 and do not linger! Remember21 the LORD in a distant land,22 and think on Jerusalem."
