Job 24:16-25 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
16 In the dark, men break into houses,1 but by day they shut themselves in; they want nothing to do with the light.2 17 For all of them, deep darkness is their morninga; they make friends with the terrors3 of darkness.b4 18 "Yet they are foam5 on the surface of the water;6 their portion of the land is cursed,7 so that no one goes to the vineyards.8 19 As heat and drought snatch away the melted snow,9 so the gravec10 snatches away those who have sinned. 20 The womb forgets them, the worm11 feasts on them;12 evil men are no longer remembered13 but are broken like a tree.14 21 They prey on the barren and childless woman, and to the widow show no kindness.15 22 But God drags away the mighty by his power;16 though they become established,17 they have no assurance of life.18 23 He may let them rest in a feeling of security,19 but his eyes20 are on their ways.21 24 For a little while they are exalted, and then they are gone;22 they are brought low and gathered up like all others;23 they are cut off like heads of grain.24 25 "If this is not so, who can prove me false and reduce my words to nothing?"25
