Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.19
His wife said to him, "Are you still holding on to your integrity?2 Curse God and die!"310
He replied, "You are talking like a foolisha woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?"4 In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.5

When Job's three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite,6 Bildad the Shuhite7 and Zophar the Naamathite,8 heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.912
When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him;10 they began to weep aloud,11 and they tore their robes12 and sprinkled dust on their heads.1313
Then they sat on the ground14 with him for seven days and seven nights.15 No one said a word to him,16 because they saw how great his suffering was.
