"Yet they are foam1 on the surface of the water;2 their portion of the land is cursed,3 so that no one goes to the vineyards.4
As heat and drought snatch away the melted snow,5 so the grave6 snatches away those who have sinned.
The womb forgets them, the worm7 feasts on them;8 evil men are no longer remembered9 but are broken like a tree.10
They prey on the barren and childless woman, and to the widow show no kindness.11
But God drags away the mighty by his power;12 though they become established,13 they have no assurance of life.14
He may let them rest in a feeling of security,15 but his eyes16 are on their ways.17
For a little while they are exalted, and then they are gone;18 they are brought low and gathered up like all others;19 they are cut off like heads of grain.20
"If this is not so, who can prove me false and reduce my words to nothing?"21
