John 1:11-21 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.1 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed2 in his name,3 he gave the right to become children of God4-- 13 children born not of natural descent,a nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.5 14 The Word became flesh6 and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,7 the glory of the One and Only,b who came from the Father, full of grace8 and truth.9 15 John testifies10 concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' "11 16 From the fullness12 of his grace13 we have all received one blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses;14 grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.15 18 No one has ever seen God,16 but God the One and Only,c d17 who is at the Father's side, has made him known.

19 Now this was John's18 testimony when the Jews19 of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, "I am not the Christ.e "20 21 They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?"21 He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?"22 He answered, "No."
