1Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your ownhusbands;that, if any obey not the word,theyalsomaywithout the word be wonby the conversation of the wives;2
While they beholdyourchasteconversation coupled withfear.3Whoseadorning let itnotbe that outward adorning of plaiting the hair,and of wearing of gold,or of putting on of apparel;4But let it be the hiddenman of the heart,in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meekandquietspirit,whichis in the sight of God of great price.5For after this manner in the old time the holywomenalso,whotrustedinGod,adornedthemselves, being in subjection unto their ownhusbands:6
Even asSaraobeyedAbraham,callinghimlord:whosedaughtersa ye are , as long as ye do well , andarenotafraid with anyamazement.7Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according toknowledge,givinghonour unto the wife,as unto the weakervessel,andas being heirs together of the grace of life;thatyourprayersbenothindered .
8Finally , be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:9Notrenderingevilforevil,orrailingforrailing:butcontrariwiseblessing;knowingthat ye arethereuntocalled , that ye should inherit a blessing .
10For he that willlovelife,andseegooddays, let him refrainhistonguefromevil,andhislips that they speaknoguile:11
Let him eschewevil,anddogood; let him seekpeace,andensueit.12For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous,andhisears are open untotheirprayers:but the face of the Lord is againstb them that doevil.13Andwho is he that will harmyou,if ye befollowers of that which is good?14But and if ye sufferfor righteousness' sake,happy are ye: andbenotafraid of theirterror,neither be troubled ;
15Butsanctify the LordGodinyourhearts:and be readyalwaysto give an answer to every man that askethyou a reasonof the hope that is inyouwithmeeknessandfear:c16Having a goodconscience;that,whereasthey speak evil of you,as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuseyourgoodconversationinChrist.17For it is better,if the will of God be so , that ye suffer for well doing , than for evil doing .
18ForChristalso hath oncesufferedforsins, the justfor the unjust,that he might bringus to God, being put to death in the flesh,butquickened by the Spirit:19Bywhichalso he went and preached unto the spiritsinprison;20
Which sometime were disobedient , whenonce the longsuffering of Godwaitedin the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing , whereinfew, that is , eightsouls were savedbywater.21
The like figurewhereunto even baptismdothalsonowsaveus (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,but the answer of a goodconsciencetoward God,) by the resurrection of JesusChrist:22Who is goneintoheaven, and ison the right hand of God;angelsandauthoritiesandpowers being made subject unto him.
