There was a certainmaninCaesareacalledCornelius, a centurionof the bandcalled the Italian band,

A devout man, and one that fearedGodwithallhishouse,whichgavemuchalms to the people,andprayed to Godalway.

He sawin a visionevidentlyabout the ninthhour of the day an angel of God coming intohim,andsaying unto him,Cornelius.

And when he looked on him, he wasafraid,andsaid, What is it, Lord?And he said unto him,Thyprayersandthinealms are come upfor a memorialbeforeGod.

AndnowsendmentoJoppa,and call for one Simon,whose surname isPeter:

HelodgethwithoneSimon a tanner,whosehouseisby the sea side:he shall telltheewhatthououghtest to do.

Andwhen the angelwhichspake unto Cornelius was departed, he calledtwo of his household servants,and a devoutsoldier of them that waited onhimcontinually;

And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sentthemtoJoppa.

On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city,Peter went upupon the housetop to prayabout the sixthhour:

And he became very hungry,andwould have eaten: but while they made ready, hefellinto a trance,

Andsawheavenopened, and a certainvesseldescendinguntohim,as it had been a greatsheetknit at the fourcorners,and let downto the earth:

Wherein*were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth,and wild beasts,and creeping things,andfowls of the air.

And there came a voicetohim,Rise, Peter;kill, andeat.
14
ButPetersaid, Not so,Lord;for I havenevereaten any thing that is commonorunclean.

And the voice spake untohimagainthe second time,WhatGod hath cleansed, that callnotthoucommon.

This was donethrice*: and the vessel was received upagainintoheaven.

NowwhilePeterdoubtedinhimselfwhat this visionwhich he had seen should mean*, behold*, the menwhich were sentfromCornelius had made enquiry for Simon'shouse, and stoodbefore the gate,

Andcalled, and askedwhetherSimon,which was surnamedPeter, were lodgedthere.

WhilePeterthoughton the vision, the Spiritsaid unto him,Behold, threemenseekthee.
20
Arisetherefore, and get thee down, andgowiththem,doubtingnothing:forI have sentthem.
21
ThenPeter went downto the menwhich were sent untohimfromCornelius; and said, Behold, Iam he whom ye seek: what is the causewhereforeye are come?

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a justman,and one that fearethGod,and of good reportamongall the nation of the Jews, was warned from Godby an holyangel to send for theeintohishouse,and to hearwordsofthee.

Then called hethemin, and lodged them. And on the morrowPeter went awaywiththem,andcertainbrethrenfromJoppaaccompaniedhim.

And the morrow after they enteredintoCaesarea.AndCornelius waited forthem*, and had called togetherhiskinsmenandnearfriends.

AndasPeterwas coming in, Corneliusmethim, and fell downat his feet, and worshipped him.

ButPetertookhimup, saying, Stand up; Imyselfalsoam a man.

And as he talked with him, he went in, andfoundmany that were come together.

And he saiduntothem,Yeknowhow that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation;butGod hath shewedme that I should notcallanymancommonorunclean.

ThereforecameI unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I asktherefore for whatintent ye have sent forme?
