On that night could not the kingsleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles ; and they were readbefore the king.2
And it was foundwritten , that Mordecai had told of Bigthanaa and Teresh,two of the king'schamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to layhand on the kingAhasuerus.3
And the kingsaid , What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king'sservants that ministered unto him, There is nothingdone for him.
And the kingsaid , Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outwardcourt of the king'shouse, to speak unto the king to hangMordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
And the king'sservantssaid unto him, Behold, Hamanstandeth in the court. And the kingsaid , Let him come in .
So Haman came in . And the kingsaid unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the kingbdelighteth to honour? Now Hamanthought in his heart, To whom would the kingdelight to dohonourmore than to myself?
And Hamananswered the king, For the man whom the kingcdelighteth to honour,8
Let the royalapparel be brought which the king useth to wear , and the horse that the kingrideth upon, and the crownroyal which is set upon his head:9
And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most nobleprinces, that they may array the man withal whom the kingdelighteth to honour, and bringd him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimbefore him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the kingdelighteth to honour.10
Then the kingsaid to Haman, Make haste , and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said , and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king'sgate: let nothingfail of all that thou hast spoken .
Then tookHaman the apparel and the horse, and arrayedMordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimedbefore him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the kingdelighteth to honour.12
And Mordecai came again to the king'sgate. But Hamanhasted to his housemourning, and having his headcovered .
And HamantoldZeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews,before whom thou hast begun to fall , thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surelyfallbefore him.
And while they were yet talking with him, came the king'schamberlains, and hasted to bringHaman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared .
