(Though Jesushimselfbaptizednot,buthis disciples,)
3
He leftJudaea,anddepartedagainintoGalilee.4And he must needsgothroughSamaria.5Then cometh heto a city of Samaria, which is calledSychar, near to the parcel of groundthatJacobgave to hissonJoseph.6NowJacob'swellwasthere.Jesustherefore, being weariedwith his journey, satthuson the well: and it wasabout the sixthhour.7
There cometh a womanofSamaria to drawwater:Jesussaith unto her,Giveme to drink .8
(For hisdisciples were gone awayunto the citytobuy meat.)
9Thensaith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it thatthou, being a Jew,askestdrinkofme, which am a woman of Samaria?for the Jewshavenodealings with the Samaritans.10Jesusansweredandsaid unto her,If thou knewest the gift of God,andwho it is that saith to thee,Giveme to drink ; thouwouldest have asked of him,and he would have giventheelivingwater.11
The womansaith unto him,Sir, thou hastnothing to draw with, and the wellisdeep: from whencethen hast thou that livingwater?12Artthougreater than ourfatherJacob, whichgaveus the well,anddrankthereofhimself,andhischildren,andhiscattle?13Jesusansweredandsaid unto her,Whosoeverdrinkethofthiswater shall thirstagain:14Butwhosoeverdrinkethof the waterthatI shall givehimshallneverthirst ; but the waterthat I shall givehim shall beinhim a well of water springing upintoeverlastinglife.15
The womansaithuntohim,Sir,givemethiswater,that I thirstnot,neithercomehither to draw .
16Jesussaith unto her,Go , callthyhusband,andcomehither.17
The womanansweredandsaid , I havenohusband.Jesussaid unto her, Thou hastwellsaid , I havenohusband:18For thou hast hadfivehusbands;and he whomthounowhastisnotthyhusband: in that saidst thoutruly.19
The womansaith unto him,Sir, I perceivethatthouart a prophet.20Ourfathersworshippedinthismountain;andyesay , thatinJerusalemis the placewhere men ought to worship .
21Jesussaith unto her,Woman, believeme, the hourcometh , when ye shallneitherinthismountain, nor yetatJerusalem, worship the Father.22Yeworship ye knownotwhat: we knowwhatweworship : forsalvationisof the Jews.23But the hourcometh , andnowis , when the trueworshippers shall worship the Fatherinspiritand in truth:fortheFatherseekethsuch to worshiphim.24God is a Spirit:and they that worshiphimmustworship him inspiritand in truth.25
The womansaith unto him, I knowthatMessiascometh , which is calledChrist:whenhe is come , he will tellus all things.26Jesussaith unto her,I that speak unto theeam he.27Anduponthiscamehisdisciples,andmarvelledthat he talkedwith the woman:yet no mansaid , What seekest thou ? or,Why talkest thouwithher?28
The womanthenleftherwaterpot, and went her wayinto the city, andsaith to the men,29Come , see a man, whichtoldme all things that ever I did : isnotthis the Christ?30Then they went out of the city,andcameuntohim.31In the mean while his disciplesprayedhim, saying , Master, eat .
32But he said unto them,Ihavemeat to eatthatyeknownotof .33Thereforesaid the disciples one to another , Hath any manbroughthim ought to eat ?
34Jesussaith unto them,Mymeatistodo the will of him that sentme, and to finishhiswork.35Saynotye,Thereareyet four months, and then comethharvest?behold , I say unto you, Lift upyoureyes, and look on the fields;for they arewhitealreadytoharvest.36And he that reapethreceivethwages, andgatherethfruituntolifeeternal:thatboth he that sowethand he that reapeth may rejoicetogether.37Andhereinis that sayingtrue , Onesoweth , andanotherreapeth .38Isentyou to reap that whereonyebestowednolabour : other menlaboured , andye are enteredintotheirlabours.39Andmany of the Samaritansofthatcitybelievedonhimfor the saying of the woman, which testified , He toldmeall that ever I did .
40Sowhen the Samaritans were comeuntohim, they besoughthim that he would tarrywiththem:and he abodetheretwodays.41Andmanymorebelievedbecause of his ownword;42Andsaid unto the woman , Now we believe , notbecause of thysaying:for we have heard him ourselves, andknowthatthisisindeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.43Nowaftertwodays he departedthence, and went intoGalilee.44ForJesushimselftestified , that a prophethathnohonourin his owncountry.45Thenwhen he was comeintoGalilee, the Galilaeansreceivedhim, having seen all the thingsthat he didatJerusalemat the feast:fortheyalsowentunto the feast.46SoJesuscameagainintoCana of Galilee, where he made the waterwine. And there was a certainnobleman, awhoseson was sickatCapernaum.47
When heheardthatJesus was come out ofJudaeaintoGalilee, he wentuntohim, andbesoughthimthat he would come down , andhealhisson:for he was at the point of death .
48ThensaidJesusuntohim,Except ye seesignsandwonders, ye willnotbelieve .49
The noblemansaithuntohim,Sir, come downeremychilddie .
50Jesussaith unto him,Go thy way ; thysonliveth .And the manbelieved the wordthatJesus had spoken unto him,and he went his way .
51And as he was now going down , hisservantsmethim, andtold him, saying , Thysonliveth .
52Then enquired heofthem the hourwhenhebegan to amend. And they said unto him , Yesterday at the seventhhour the feverlefthim.53So the fatherknewthat it was at the samehour,in the whichJesussaid unto him , Thysonliveth :andhimselfbelieved , andhiswholehouse.54This is again the secondmiracle that Jesusdid , when he was come outofJudaeaintoGalilee.
