1AtthattimeHerod the tetrarchaheard of the fame of Jesus,2Andsaid unto hisservants,ThisisJohn the Baptist;he is risenfrom the dead;andthereforemightyworks do shew forth themselvesinhim.3ForHerod had laid hold on John, and boundhim,andput him inprisonforHerodias'sake,hisbrotherPhilip'swife.4ForJohnsaid unto him, It isnotlawful for thee to haveher.5And when he would have puthim to death , he feared the multitude,because they countedhimas a prophet.6But when Herod'sbirthday was kept , the daughter of Herodiasdanced before them , andpleasedHerod.7Whereupon he promisedwith an oath to giveherwhatsoevershe would ask .
8And she, being before instructedofhermother,said , GivemehereJohnBaptist'sheadin a charger.9And the king was sorry : nevertheless forthe oath's sake,and them which sat with him at meat , he commanded it to be given her.
10And he sent , and beheadedJohnin the prison.11Andhishead was broughtin a charger,andgiven to the damsel:and she brought it to hermother.12Andhisdisciplescame , and took up the body,andburiedit,andwent and toldJesus.13WhenJesusheard of it, he departedthencebyshipinto a desertplaceapart : and when the people had heard thereof, they followedhim on foot out of the cities.14AndJesus went forth , and saw a greatmultitude,and was moved with compassiontowardthem,and he healedtheirsick.15And when it wasevening,hisdisciplescame to him,saying , This is a desertplace,and the time is nowpast ; send the multitudeaway , that they may gointo the villages, and buythemselvesvictuals.16ButJesussaid unto them,They neednotdepart ; giveyethem to eat .17And they say unto him, We haveherebutfiveloaves,andtwofishes.18Hesaid , Bringthemhither to me.19And he commanded the multitude to sit downon the grass,andtook the fiveloaves,and the twofishes, and looking uptoheaven, he blessed , andbrake , and gave the loaves to his disciples,and the disciples to the multitude.20And they didalleat , and were filled : and they took up of the fragments that remainedtwelvebasketsfull.21And they that had eatenwereabout five thousandmen,besidewomenandchildren.22AndstraightwayJesusconstrainedhisdisciples to getinto a ship,and to go beforehimunto the other side,whilehesent the multitudesaway .
23And when he had sent the multitudesaway , he went upinto a mountainaparttopray : and when the evening was come , he wastherealone.24But the shipwasnow in the midst of the sea,tossedwithwaves:for the windwascontrary.25And in the fourthwatch of the nightJesuswentuntothem,walkingon the sea.26And when the disciplessawhimwalkingon the sea, they were troubled , saying , It is a spirit;and they cried outforfear.27ButstraightwayJesusspake unto them,saying , Be of good cheer ; it isI;benotafraid .28AndPeteransweredhim and said , Lord,if it bethou,bidmecomeuntotheeon the water.29And he said , Come .And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walkedon the water, to gotoJesus.30But when he saw the windboisterous,b he was afraid ; andbeginning to sink , he cried , saying , Lord,saveme.31AndimmediatelyJesus stretched forth his hand, and caughthim,andsaid unto him,O thou of little faith,whereforedidst thou doubt ?32And when they were comeinto the ship, the windceased .
33Then they that were in the shipcame and worshippedhim,saying , Of a truth thou art the Son of God.34And when they were gone over , they cameinto the land of Gennesaret.35And when the men of thatplace had knowledge of him, they sent outintoallthat country round about,andbrought unto himall that werediseased;36Andbesoughthimthat they mightonlytouch the hem of hisgarment:and as many astouched were made perfectly whole .
