What can I say for you?10 With what can I compare you, O Daughter11 of Jerusalem? To what can I liken you, that I may comfort you, O Virgin Daughter of Zion?12 Your wound is as deep as the sea.13 Who can heal you?
All who pass your way clap their hands at you;17 they scoff18 and shake their heads19 at the Daughter of Jerusalem:20 "Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty,21 the joy of the whole earth?"22
The LORD has done what he planned; he has fulfilled27 his word, which he decreed long ago.28 He has overthrown you without pity,29 he has let the enemy gloat over you,30 he has exalted the horna of your foes.31
Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart37 like water in the presence of the Lord.38 Lift up your hands39 to him for the lives of your children, who faint40 from hunger at the head of every street.
"Look, O LORD, and consider: Whom have you ever treated like this? Should women eat their offspring,41 the children they have cared for?42 Should priest and prophet be killed43 in the sanctuary of the Lord?44
