I will walk1 among you and be your God,2 and you will be my people.313
I am the LORD your God,4 who brought you out of Egypt5 so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke6 and enabled you to walk with heads held high.
" 'But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands,715
and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws8 and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant,916
then I will do this to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever10 that will destroy your sight and drain away your life.11 You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.1217
I will set my face13 against you so that you will be defeated14 by your enemies;15 those who hate you will rule over you,16 and you will flee even when no one is pursuing you.1718
" 'If after all this you will not listen to me,18 I will punish19 you for your sins seven times over.2019
I will break down your stubborn pride21 and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze.2220
Your strength will be spent in vain,23 because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit.2421
" 'If you remain hostile25 toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over,26 as your sins deserve.
I will send wild animals27 against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few28 in number that your roads will be deserted.29
