Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab
He could not be easy, even though a messenger was dispatched, but pressed Joab still:

but howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi;
only permit me to go after him, though not as a messenger:

and Joab said, wherefore wilt thou run, my son?
having a great affection for him, and concerned that he should take trouble on him to no purpose:

seeing thou hast no tidings ready;
no news to carry, but what Cushi is gone with, and so can have no audience of the king, nor any reward from him.

20 Joab aber sprach zu ihm: Du bringst heute keine gute Botschaft. Einen andern Tag sollst du Botschaft bringen, und heute nicht; denn des Königs Sohn ist tot.

21 Aber zu Chusi sprach Joab: Gehe hin und sage dem König an, was du gesehen hast. Und Chusi neigte sich vor Joab und lief.

23 Wie wenn ich liefe? Er sprach zu ihm: So laufe doch! Also lief Ahimaaz geradewegs und kam Chusi vor.

24 David aber saß zwischen beiden Toren. Und der Wächter ging aufs Dach des Tors an der Mauer und hob seine Augen auf und sah einen Mann laufen allein
