As for the man who does this, whoever he may be, may the LORD cut him off1 from the tents of Jacoba2--even though he brings offerings3 to the LORD Almighty.
Another thing you do: You flood the LORD's altar with tears.4 You weep and wail5 because he no longer pays attention6 to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.714
You ask,8 "Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness9 between you and the wife of your youth,10 because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.1115
Has not [the LORD] made them one?12 In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring.b13 So guard yourself14 in your spirit, and do not break faith15 with the wife of your youth.
"I hate divorce,16" says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himselfc with violence17 as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit,18 and do not break faith.
You have wearied19 the LORD with your words. "How have we wearied him?" you ask.20 By saying, "All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD, and he is pleased21 with them" or "Where is the God of justice?22"
