But who can endure1 the day of his coming?2 Who can stand3 when he appears? For he will be like a refiner's fire4 or a launderer's soap.53
He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver;6 he will purify7 the Levites and refine them like gold and silver.8 Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness,94
and the offerings10 of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the LORD, as in days gone by, as in former years.115
"So I will come near to you for judgment. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers,12 adulterers13 and perjurers,14 against those who defraud laborers of their wages,15 who oppress the widows16 and the fatherless, and deprive aliens17 of justice, but do not fear18 me," says the LORD Almighty.
"I the LORD do not change.19 So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.207
Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away21 from my decrees and have not kept them. Return22 to me, and I will return to you,"23 says the LORD Almighty. "But you ask,24 'How are we to return?'
"Will a man rob25 God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes26 and offerings.
You are under a curse27--the whole nation of you--because you are robbing me.
Bring the whole tithe28 into the storehouse,29 that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates30 of heaven and pour out31 so much blessing32 that you will not have room enough for it.3311
I will prevent pests from devouring34 your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit,35" says the LORD Almighty.
"Then all the nations will call you blessed,36 for yours will be a delightful land,"37 says the LORD Almighty.38
