Listen to what the LORD says: "Stand up, plead your case before the mountains;1 let the hills hear what you have to say.
Hear,2 O mountains, the LORD's accusation;3 listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth. For the LORD has a case4 against his people; he is lodging a charge5 against Israel.
"My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened6 you?7 Answer me.
I brought you up out of Egypt8 and redeemed you from the land of slavery.9 I sent Moses10 to lead you, also Aaron11 and Miriam.125
My people, remember what Balak13 king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember [ your journey] from Shittim14 to Gilgal,15 that you may know the righteous acts16 of the LORD."
With what shall I come before17 the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?187
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,19 with ten thousand rivers of oil?20 Shall I offer my firstborn21 for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?228
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly23 and to love mercy and to walk humbly24 with your God.25
