"But you, Bethlehem1 Ephrathah,2 though you are small among the clansa of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler3 over Israel, whose originsb are from of old,4 from ancient times.c "53
Therefore Israel will be abandoned6 until the time when she who is in labor gives birth and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites.
He will stand and shepherd his flock7 in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness8 will reach to the ends of the earth.
And he will be their peace.9 When the Assyrian invades10 our land and marches through our fortresses, we will raise against him seven shepherds, even eight leaders of men.116
They will ruled the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod12 with drawn sword.e13 He will deliver us from the Assyrian when he invades our land and marches into our borders.147
The remnant15 of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples like dew16 from the LORD, like showers on the grass,17 which do not wait for man or linger for mankind.
The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest,18 like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which mauls and mangles19 as it goes, and no one can rescue.209
Your hand will be lifted up21 in triumph over your enemies, and all your foes will be destroyed.
"In that day," declares the LORD, "I will destroy your horses from among you and demolish your chariots.2211
I will destroy the cities23 of your land and tear down all your strongholds.2412
I will destroy your witchcraft and you will no longer cast spells.25
