and we toil, 1working with our ownhands; when we are 2reviled, we bless; when we are 3persecuted, we endure;
when we are slandered, we try to aconciliate; we have 4become as the scum of the world, the dregs of allthings, even untilnow.
I do not writethesethings to 5shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved6children.
For if you were to havecountless7tutors in Christ, yet you would not have manyfathers, for in 8ChristJesus I 9became your fatherthrough the 10gospel.
16Therefore I exhort you, be 11imitators of me.
For thisreason I 12have sent to you 13Timothy, who is my 14beloved and faithfulchild in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, 15just as I teacheverywhere in everychurch.
18Nowsome have become b16arrogant, as though I were not 17coming to you.
But I 18will come to you soon, 19if the Lordwills, and I shall find out, not the cwords of those who are 20arrogant but their power.
For the kingdom of God does 21not consist in dwords but in power.
21What do you desire? 22Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness?
