20 [a]But you have an 1anointing from 2the Holy One, and 3you all know.
21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but 4because you do know it, and [b]because no * lie is 5of the truth.
22 Who is the liar but 6the one who denies that Jesus is the [c]Christ? This is 7the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.
23 8Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.
24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard 9from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also 10will abide in the Son and in the Father.

The Promise Is Eternal Life

25 11This is the promise which He Himself [d]made to us: eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to 12deceive you.
27 As for you, the 13anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing 14teaches you about all things, and is 15true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, [e]you abide in Him.
28 Now, 16little children, abide in Him, so that when He 17appears, we may have 18confidence and 19not [f]shrink away from Him in shame [g]at His 20coming.
29 If you know that 21He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness 22is [h]born of Him.
