5 You know that He 1appeared in order to 2take away sins; and 3in Him there is no sin.
6 No * one who abides in Him 4sins; no * one who sins has seen Him or 5knows Him.
7 6Little children, make sure no one 7deceives you; 8the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous;
8 the one who practices sin is 9of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. 10The Son of God 11appeared for this purpose, 12to destroy the works of the devil.
9 No * one who is 13born of God 14practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot * sin, because he is born of God.
10 By this the 15children of God and the 16children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who 17does not love his 18brother.
11 19For this is the message 20which you have heard from the beginning, 21that we should love one another;
12 not as 22Cain, who was of 23the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because 24his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous.
13 Do not be surprised, brethren, if 25the world hates you.
14 We know that we have 26passed out of death into life, 27because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.
15 Everyone who 28hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that 29no * murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
