Then Zimriwent in and struck him and put him to death in the twenty-seventh*year of Asaking of Judah, and becameking in his place.

It came about when he becameking, as soon as he sat on his throne, that 1he killedall the household of Baasha; he did not leave a single male*, neither of his relatives nor of his friends.

Thus Zimridestroyedall the household of Baasha, 2according to the word of the LORD, which He spokeagainstBaashathrough3Jehu the prophet,

for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son, which they sinned and which they made Israelsin, 4provoking the LORDGod of Israel to anger with their idols.

5Now the rest of the acts of Elah and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles* of the Kings of Israel?

In the twenty-seventh*year of Asaking of Judah, Zimrireignedsevendays at Tirzah. Now the people were campedagainst6Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

The people who were campedheard it said, "Zimri has conspired and has alsostruckdown the king." Therefore allIsraelmadeOmri, the commander of the army, kingoverIsrael that day in the camp.

Then Omri and allIsrael with him went up from Gibbethon and besieged*Tirzah.

When Zimrisaw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the king'shouse and burned the king'shouseover him with fire, and 7died,

because of his sinswhich he sinned, doingevil in the sight of the LORD, 8walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sinwhich he did, making Israelsin.
