11ThenSolomonassembled the elders of Israel and all2the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers' households of the sons of Israel, to KingSolomon in Jerusalem, 3to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from 4the city of David, which is Zion.
2All the men of Israelassembled themselves to KingSolomon at 5the feast, in the monthEthanim, which is the seventhmonth.
3
Then all the elders of Israelcame, and 6the prieststook up the ark.
4
They brought up the ark of the LORD and 7the tent of meeting and all the holyutensils, which were in the tent, and the priests and the Levitesbrought them up.
5
And KingSolomon and all the congregation of Israel, who were assembled to him, 8were with him before the ark, sacrificingasomanysheep and oxen they could not be counted or numbered.
6
Then 9the priestsbrought the ark of the covenant of the LORD10to its place, into the innersanctuary of the house, to the mostholyplace, 11under the wings of the cherubim.
7
For the cherubimspread their wingsover the place of the ark, and the cherubimmade a coveringover the ark and its poles from above .
8
But 12the poles were so long that the ends of the poles could be seen from the holy place before the innersanctuary, but they could not be seenoutside ; they are there to thisday.
913There was nothing in the arkexcept the twotablets of stonewhichMosesputthere at Horeb, where14the LORDmade a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
10
It happened that when the priestscame from the holy place, 15the cloudfilled the house of the LORD,
11
so that the priestscould not stand to ministerbecause of the cloud, for the glory of the LORDfilled the house of the LORD.
1216ThenSolomonsaid, "The LORD has said that 17He would dwell in the thickcloud.
13
"18I have surelybuilt You a loftyhouse, 19A place for Your dwellingforever."
14
Then the kingbfacedabout and 20blessedall the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing.
15
He said, "21Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, 22whospoke with His mouth to my fatherDavid and has fulfilled it with His hand, saying,
16
'23Since the day that I brought My peopleIsrael from Egypt, I did not choose a city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house that 24My name might be there, but 25I choseDavid to be over My peopleIsrael.'
17
"26Now it was cin the heart of my fatherDavid to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
18
"But the LORDsaid to my fatherDavid, 'Because it was din your heart to build a house for My name, you didwell that it was ein your heart.
19
'27Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who fwill be born to you, he will build the house for My name.'
20
"Now the LORD has fulfilled His wordwhich He spoke ; for 28I have risen in place of my fatherDavid and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORDgpromised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
21"There I have set a place for the ark, 29in which is the covenant of the LORD, which He made with our fathers when He brought them from the land of Egypt."
22
Then 30Solomonstoodbefore the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and 31spread out his hands toward heaven.
23
He said, "O LORD, the God of Israel, 32there is noGodlike You in heavenabove or on earthbeneath , 33keepingcovenant and showing lovingkindness to Your servants who walkbefore You with all their heart,
24who have kept with Your servant, my fatherDavid, that which You have hpromised him; indeed, You have spoken with Your mouth and have fulfilled it with Your hand as it is thisday.
25"Now therefore, O LORD, the God of Israel, keep with Your servantDavid my father that which You have ipromised him, saying, 'j34You shall not lack a man to sit on the throne of Israel, ifonly your sonstakeheed to their way to walkbefore Me as you have walked.'
26"Now therefore, O God of Israel, let Your word, I pray, be confirmed35which You have spoken to Your servant, my fatherDavid.
27
"But will Godindeeddwell on the earth ? Behold, 36heaven and the khighestheavencannotcontain You, howmuchlessthishousewhich I have built !
28
"Yet haveregard to the 37prayer of Your servant and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayerwhich Your servantpraysbefore You today ;
2938that Your eyes may be opentowardthishousenight and day, toward39the place of which You have said, 'My name shall be there,' to listen to the prayerwhich Your servant shall praytowardthisplace.
30
"40Listen to the supplication of Your servant and of Your peopleIsrael, 41when they praytowardthisplace ; hear in heaven Your dwellingplace ; hear and 42forgive.
31
"43If a mansins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath, and he comes and takes an oathbefore Your altar in thishouse,
32
then hear in heaven and act and judge Your servants, 44condemning the wicked by bringing his way on his own head and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.
33
"45When Your peopleIsrael are ldefeatedbefore an enemy, because they have sinned against You, 46if they turn to You again and confess Your name and pray and makesupplication to You in thishouse,
34
then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your peopleIsrael, and bring them back to the landwhich You gave to their fathers.
35
"47When the heavens are shut up and there is norain, because they have sinned against You, and they praytowardthisplace and confess Your name and turn from their sinwhen You afflict them,
36
then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants and of Your peopleIsrael, 48indeed, teach them the goodway in which they should walk. And 49sendrain on Your land, which You have given Your people for an inheritance.
37
"50If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight or mildew, locust or grasshopper, if their enemybesieges them in the land of their mcities, whateverplague, whateversickness there is,
38whateverprayer or supplication is made by anyman or by all Your peopleIsrael, neachknowing the oaffliction of his own heart, and spreading his phandstowardthishouse ;
39
then hear in heaven Your dwellingplace, and forgive and act and render to each according to all his ways, 51whoseheart You know, for 52You aloneknow the hearts of all the sons of men,
40
that they may qfear You all the days that they liverin the landwhich You have given to our fathers.
41"Alsoconcerning the foreignerwho is not of Your peopleIsrael, when he comes from a farcountry for Your name'ssake42
(for they will hear of Your greatname53and Your mightyhand, and of Your outstretchedarm ); when he comes and praystowardthishouse,
43hear in heaven Your dwellingplace, and do according to all for which the foreignercalls to You, in order54that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name, to sfear You, as do Your peopleIsrael, and that they may know that tthishousewhich I have built is called by Your name.
44"When Your peoplego out to battleagainstutheir enemy, by whateverway You shall send them, and 55they pray to the LORDvtoward the citywhich You have chosen and the housewhich I have built for Your name,
45
then hear in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their wcause.
46"When they sin against You (for 56there is nomanwho does not sin ) and You are angry with them and deliver them to an enemy, so that xthey take them away captive57to the land of the enemy, far off ornear ;
4758if they ytakethought in the landwhere they have been takencaptive, and repent and makesupplication to You in the land of those who have taken them captive, saying, '59We have sinned and have committediniquity, we have actedwickedly ';
4860if they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemieswho have taken them captive, and 61pray to You toward their landwhich You have given to their fathers, the citywhich You have chosen, and the housewhich I have built for Your name ;
49
then hear their prayer and their supplication in heaven Your dwellingplace, and maintain their zcause,
50
and forgive Your peoplewho have sinned against You and all their transgressionswhich they have transgressed against You, and 62make them objects of compassionbefore those who have taken them captive, that they may havecompassion on them
51
(63for they are Your people and Your inheritancewhich You have broughtforth from Egypt, 64from the midst of the ironfurnace ),
5265that Your eyes may be open to the supplication of Your servant and to the supplication of Your peopleIsrael, to listen to them whenever they call to You.
53
"For You have separated them from all the peoples of the earth as Your inheritance, 66as You spokethroughMoses Your servant, when You brought our fathersforth from Egypt, O LordaaGOD."
5467When Solomon had finishedprayingthisentireprayer and supplication to the LORD, 68he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his bbhandsspread toward heaven.
55
And he stood and 69blessedall the assembly of Israel with a loudvoice, saying :
56"Blessed be the LORD, who has givenrest to His peopleIsrael, 70according to all that He ccpromised ; 71not oneword has ddfailed of all His goodeepromise, which He ffpromisedthroughMoses His servant.
57
"May the LORD our God be with us, as He was with our fathers ; 72may He not leave us or forsake us,
58
that 73He may incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances, which He commanded our fathers.
59
"And may thesewords of mine, with which I have madesupplicationbefore the LORD, be near to the LORD our Godday and night, that He may maintain the ggcause of His servant and the hhcause of His peopleIsrael, iias eachdayrequires,
60so74that all the peoples of the earth may know that 75the LORD is God ; there is nooneelse.
61
"76Let your heart therefore be jjwhollydevoted to the LORD our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at thisday."
6277Now the king and allIsrael with him 78offeredsacrificebefore the LORD.
63Solomonoffered for the sacrifice of peaceofferings, which he offered to the LORD, 22,000oxen and 120,000sheep. 79So the king and all the sons of Israeldedicated the house of the LORD.
64
On the sameday the kingconsecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD, becausethere he kkoffered the burntoffering and the grain offering and the fat of the peaceofferings ; for 80the bronzealtar that was before the LORD was toosmall to hold the burntoffering and the grain offering and the fat of the peaceofferings.
65
So 81Solomonobserved the feast at that time, and allIsrael with him, a greatassembly82from the entrance of Hamath83to the brook of Egypt, before the LORD our God, for sevendays and seven more days, even fourteendays.
66
On the eighthday he sent the peopleaway and they blessed the king. Then they went to their tentsjoyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had llshown to David His servant and to Israel His people.
