But you are 1A CHOSEN RACE, A royal 2PRIESTHOOD, A 3HOLY NATION, 4A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you 5out of darkness into His marvelous light ;

6for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD ; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

7Beloved, 8I urge you as 9aliens and strangers to abstain from 10fleshly lusts which wage 11war against the soul.

12Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they 13slander you as evildoers, they may abecause of your good deeds, as they observe them, 14glorify God 15in the day of bvisitation.
