"For 1as the LORDlives, who deliversIsrael, though* it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely*die." But not one of all the peopleanswered him.

Then he said to allIsrael, "You shall be on oneside and I and Jonathan my son will be on the otherside." And the peoplesaid to Saul, "Dowhat seems good to you."

Therefore, Saulsaid to the LORD, the God of Israel, "2Give a perfect lot." And Jonathan and Saul were taken, but the peopleescaped.

Saulsaid, "Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son." And Jonathan was taken.

Then Saulsaid to Jonathan, "3Tell me what you have done." So Jonathantold him and said, "4I indeedtasted a littlehoney with the end of the staff that was in my hand. Here I am, I must die!"

Saulsaid, "5May Goddothis to me and morealso, for 6you shall surelydie, Jonathan."

But the peoplesaid to Saul, "Must Jonathandie, who has broughtaboutthisgreatdeliverance in Israel? Far from it! As the LORDlives, 7not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground, for 8he has worked with Godthisday." So the peoplerescuedJonathan and he did not die.

Then Saulwent up from pursuing the Philistines, and the Philistineswent to their own place.
Constant Warfare
47 Now when Saul had taken the kingdomoverIsrael, he fought against all his enemies on everyside, against Moab, 9the sons of Ammon, Edom, 10the kings of Zobah, and 11the Philistines; and wherever* he turned, he inflictedpunishment.

He actedvaliantly and 12defeated the Amalekites, and deliveredIsrael from the hands of those who plundered them.

Now 13the sons of Saul were Jonathan and Ishvi and Malchi-shua; and the names of his twodaughters were these: the name of the firstborn14Merab and the name of the younger15Michal.
