And he must 1have a good reputation with 2those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and 3the snare of the devil.
8
4Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not adouble-tongued, b5or addicted to much wine c6or fond of sordid gain,
9
7but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.
10
8These men must also first be tested ; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach.
11
dWomen must likewise be dignified, 9not malicious gossips, but 10temperate, faithful in all things.
12
11Deacons must be 12husbands of only one wife, and e13good managers of their children and their own households.

For those who have served well as deacons 14obtain for themselves a fhigh standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long ;
15
but gin case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how hone ought to conduct himself in 15the household of God, which is the 16church of 17the living God, the 18pillar and support of the truth.

By common confession, great is 19the mystery of godliness : He who was 20revealed in the flesh, Was i21vindicated jin the Spirit, 22Seen by angels, 23Proclaimed among the nations, 24Believed on in the world, 25Taken up in glory.
