Now 1the Spirit of Godcame on Azariah the son of Oded,
and he went out ato meetAsa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa, and allJudah and Benjamin: 2the LORD is with you when you are with Him. And 3if you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.
"4For manydaysIsrael was without the trueGod and without5a teachingpriest and withoutlaw.
"But 6in their distress they turned to the LORDGod of Israel, and they sought Him, and He let them find Him.
"7In thosetimesthere was nopeace to him who went out or to him who came in, for manydisturbancesbafflictedall the inhabitants of the lands.
"8Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for Godtroubled them with every kind of distress.
"But you, 9be strong and do not closecourage , for there is 10reward for your work."
Now when Asaheardthesewords and the dprophecy which Azariah the son of Oded the prophet spoke, he tookcourage and removed the abominableidols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from 11the citieswhich he had captured in the hillcountry of Ephraim. 12He then restored the altar of the LORDwhich was in front of the porch of the LORD.
He gatheredallJudah and Benjamin and those from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon13who resided with them, for manydefected to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
So they assembled at Jerusalem in the thirdmonth of the fifteenthyear of Asa'sreign.
1114They sacrificed to the LORD that day700oxen and 7,000sheep from the spoil they had brought.
1215They entered into the covenant to seek the LORDGod of their fathers with all their heart and soul;
and whoever would not seek the LORDGod of Israel16should be put to death, whethersmallorgreat, manorwoman.
Moreover, they made an oath to the LORD with a loudvoice, with shouting, with trumpets and with horns.
15AllJudahrejoicedconcerning the oath, for they had sworn with their wholeheart and had sought Him eearnestly , and He let them find Him. So 17the LORDgave them rest on everyside.
1618He alsoremovedMaacah, the mother of KingAsa, from the position of queenmother, because she had made a horridimagefas 19an Asherah, and 20Asacutdown her horridimage, crushed it and burned it at the brookKidron.
But the highplaces were not removed from Israel; neverthelessAsa'sheart was blamelessall his days.
He brought into the house of God the dedicatedthings of his father and his own dedicatedthings: silver and gold and utensils.
And there was no more waruntil the thirty-fifthyear of Asa'sreign.
