11Amaziah was twenty-five*yearsold when he becameking, and he reignedtwenty-nine*years in Jerusalem. And his mother'sname was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

He didright in the sight of the LORD, 2yet not with a wholeheart.

Now 3it came about as soon as the kingdom was firmly in his grasp, that he killed his servants who had slain his father the king.

However, he did not put their children to death, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, which the LORDcommanded, saying, "4Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, norsons be put to death for fathers, but each shall be put to death for his own sin."
Amaziah Defeats Edomites
5 Moreover, AmaziahassembledJudah and appointed them according to their fathers'households under commanders of thousands and commanders of hundredsthroughoutJudah and Benjamin; and he took a census of those 5from twentyyearsold and upward and found them to be 6300,000**choice men, able to go to war and handlespear and shield.

He hired also 100,000*valiantwarriors out of Israel for one hundredtalents of silver.

But 7a man of Godcame to him saying, "O king, do not let the army of Israelgo with you, for the LORD is not with Israel nor with any of the sons of Ephraim.

"But if you do go, do it, be strong for the battle; yet God will bring you downbefore the enemy, 8for Godhaspower to help and to bringdown."

Amaziahsaid to the man of God, "But what shall we do for the hundredtalentswhich I have given to the troops of Israel?" And the man of Godanswered, "9The LORDhasmuchmore to give you thanthis."

Then Amaziahdismissed them, the troopswhichcame to him from Ephraim, to gohome; so their angerburned against Judah and they returnedhome in fierceanger.

Now Amaziahstrengthened himself and led his peopleforth, and went to 10the Valley of Salt and struckdown10,000* of the sons of Seir.
