that he built the citieswhichHuram had given to him, and settled the sons of Israelthere.

Then Solomonwent to Hamath-zobah and captured it.

He builtTadmor in the wilderness and all the storagecitieswhich he had built in Hamath.

He also builtupper2Beth-horon and lowerBeth-horon, 3fortifiedcities with walls, gates and bars;

and Baalath and all the storagecities that Solomonhad, and all the cities for his chariots and cities for his horsemen, and all that it pleased*Solomon to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land under his rule.

4All of the people who were left of the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, who were not of Israel,

namely, from their descendantswho were leftafter them in the landwhom the sons of Israel had not destroyed, 5them Solomonraised as forcedlaborers to thisday.

But Solomon did not makeslaves for his work from the sons of Israel; they were men of war, his chiefcaptains and commanders of his chariots and his horsemen.

These were the chiefofficers of KingSolomon, two hundred and fifty who ruled over the people.

6Then SolomonbroughtPharaoh'sdaughter up from the city of David to the housewhich he had built for her, for he said, "My wife shall not dwell in the house of Davidking of Israel, because the places are holywhere the ark of the LORD has entered."
