3This is the verything I 1wrote you, so that 2when I came, I would not havesorrow from those whoought to make me rejoice ; having3confidence in you all that my joy would be the joy of you all.
For out of muchaffliction and anguish of heart I 4wrote to you with manytears ; not so that you would be madesorrowful, but that you might know the lovewhich I haveespecially for you.
But 5ifany has causedsorrow, he has causedsorrow not to me, but in somedegree -ain order not to saytoomuch -to all of you.
6Sufficient for such a one is 6thispunishment which was inflicted by the majority,
7so that on the contrary you should rather7forgive and comfort him, otherwisesuch a one might be overwhelmed by excessivesorrow.
8Wherefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
For to this end also8I wrote, so that I might b9put you to the test, whether you are 10obedient in allthings.
But onewhom you forgiveanything, I forgive also ; for indeedwhat I have forgiven, if I have forgivenanything, I did it for your sakes11in the presence of Christ,
11so that noadvantage would be taken of us by 12Satan, for 13we are not ignorant of his schemes.
12Now when I came to 14Troas for the 15gospel of Christ and when a 16door was opened for me in the Lord,
I 17hadnorest for my spirit, not finding18Titus my brother ; but 19taking my leave of them, I went on to 20Macedonia.
